Repellants for Garden Pest Control Ro-pel®
Ro-pel® gives a harmless but very bitter taste to all chewables and edibles that you want to protect. It also repels just about all above-ground creatures including birds, chipmunks, deer, ground hogs, opossums, porcupines, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, and woodchucks. Because many flowering plants grow fast, and new shoots will not taste bitter, spraying must be repeated every few weeks during the growing season. Even so, Ro-pel® provides a sound way of dealing with nearly all small animal problems in flower and ornamental gardens. Ro-pel® also protects seeds and bulbs. A simple soaking for one minute in Ro-pel® before planting will make your seeds and bulbs unpalatable to squirrels and other foraging animals. Shake-Away™ Urine Granules & Powder - OMRI Listed for Organic Gardening
Shake-Away™ is a more refined form of urine that comes as a powder or granules. The Small Critter Granules are made with fox urine and, in addition to protecting against squirrels, also protects against chipmunks, rabbits, opossums, porcupines, woodchucks, ground hogs, prairie dogs, skunks and gophers. The Large Animal Granules are made with coyote urine and protect against deer, elk, raccoons, armadillos, javalinas and wild pigs.The Rodent Granules are formulated with a blend of fox and bobcat urine and protect against squirrels, mice, rats, moles, voles and shrews. The Commercial Blend is a mixture of fox, bobcat and coyote urine and protects against all the above animals. When applied to exposed outdoor areas Shake-Away™ needs to be replenished every week or two, and also needs to be replaced after a heavy rain. This product lasts 4 to 6 weeks when used indoors or in outdoor areas protected from the weather. To apply it in areas like attics, basements, garages, sheds, greenhouses, ground underneath buildings, etc. put two or three ounces on a paper plate and locate one plate in each 10-foot x 10-foot area to be protected. You can also place 2 to 3 ounces of Shake-Away™ in cut-off pieces of nylon stockings with the ends tied. If the area to be protected is hard to reach, toss one of these stocking balls into each 10-foot x 10-foot area. However, urine alone is unlikely to evict squirrels if they have a well-established nest; it is much better to either trap such squirrels and remove them or install an Evictor strobe and drive them out of their nest. After eviction (and after all possible re-entry holes are plugged) deploy Shake-Away™ Rodent Granules, to discourage re-infestation. One 20-ounce container holds enough to create a protective strip one foot wide and 600 feet long around the perimeter of an area to be protected. One 3 lb container creates a protective strip one foot wide and 1,440 feet long while the 12 lb container creates a protective strip one foot wide and 5,760 feet long. Shake-Away™ can also be sprinkled lightly over vulnerable bulbs, bushes, and flowers (which it will not harm) for maximum coverage. Individual powder packs can be hung on specimen shrubs and trees or several can be strung up on a line a few feet apart to create a virtual fence to protect from deer. The powder packs can also be hung near bird feeders or as perimeter lines.
This versatile raccoon and squirrel pest repellant (a sprayable liquid mix of mustard oil and chile extract in a vegetable base) works both by odor and by taste. So it is good at discouraging raccoons and opossum attacks on garbage and can keep these animals from digging in gardens, lawns, and landscaped areas. It resists washing off, and its pleasant lemon scent is inoffensive to people.
Designed for spraying over a fairly large area, this repellant discourages moles, voles, gophers (pocket gophers), squirrels, raccoons, armadillos, etc. from digging up your landscape or gardens by making the sprayed soil taste bad. Whole Control won’t harm plants, turf, or soil and is non-toxic. The container comes witha hose-end sprayer for easy spray dispersal. The 32-oz. bottle will cover up to 5,000 square feet. |
