Smoke Bomb

The Giant Destroyer

A classic way of getting rid of moles, voles, gophers (pocket gophers), ground hogs, ground squirrels, rabbits (which sometimes live in other creatures' burrows), and woodchucks is to smoke-bomb them. The Giant Destroyer releases a sulfurous smoke that asphyxiates tunnel dwellers. Simply light the fuse, place the Destroyer lit end down into the hole entrance, and quickly cover the device and the hole with soil.

Naturally, for the Giant Destroyer to work, the target animal needs to be at home. You can determine this for woodchucks/ground hogs (two names for the same animal) in any of three ways. First, woodchucks/ground hogs often have parasitic flies that live on them. The flies hop off and linger by the entrance when the woodchuck/ground hog enters its burrow, so if you see flies lingering by the entrance there's a good chance the animal is home. Second, if you see the animal and scare it into its burrow, you know it's home. And third, woodchucks/ground hogs are always home at night, but if you bomb them at night you should take along another person to hold the flashlight while you light the device and place it in the burrow.

We do not recommend using the Giant Destroyer if the target animal's burrow is under a deck or shed or some other place where you would be in a confined space without an easy exit when you use it, because if you fail to cover the burrow entrance with soil before the bomb lets go you might get some the smoke reserved for the animal. Under other circumstances (in open areas) this is not a significant concern.

NORTH CAROLINA CUSTOMERS: We regret that because of a state law banning all devices harmful to wild creatures we cannot ship the Giant Destroyer to North Carolina.
