Live Traps
We feature top-of-the-line Havahart traps because all models come fully assembled and are easy to bait, set, and release. Their spring-loaded doors have sensitive triggers to make quick, secure catches and the steel-reinforced high-tensile wire mesh construction is designed for a long life and maximum resistance to damage. The smooth inside edges protect trapped animals. The professional style one door traps have an adjustable trigger pressure that adjusts to target animal size and reduces undesirable catches. The Easy Set trap takes only one hand to set and release so there's no fiddling with a sensitive mechanism when setting it or releasing a trapped animal. Some animals are very wary of entering a space that looks like it has no way out so that a 2 door model will sometimes catch a wily animal that a 1 door model won't. One or more of these traps should be appropriately baited and placed in areas frequented by the animals you wish to catch or along paths commonly used by them. Squirrels can be baited with sunflower seeds or unshelled peanuts while the best raccoon bait is a formula specially developed by a backwoods trapper that you can buy below (item T-14). Of the other creatures mentioned in the table below, cats can be baited with sardines, canned tuna, or other fish; chipmunks with sunflower seeds; foxes with chicken; ground hogs with fresh string beans, sweet corn, or cantaloupe; opossums with vegetables, sweet apples, or sardines; rats with cheese; and skunks with cat food. |
